Frequently Asked Questions
How do I convert an image from one format to another?
Drop an image (or a folder) onto the page, pick the output format from the dropdown, and hit Convert. The converted file downloads instantly. Everything runs in your browser — your original file is never uploaded.
Which image format should I use — PNG, JPG, WebP, or AVIF?
JPG for photos (small files, lossy). PNG when you need transparency or sharp UI elements (lossless, larger). WebP is the modern web default — 25–35% smaller than JPG at the same quality, with transparency. AVIF shrinks further (up to 50% smaller than JPG) but support is still catching up.
Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?
Yes. Drop a .heic or .heif file and convert it to JPG, PNG, WebP, or any supported format. HEIC uses modern codecs your laptop or Windows PC often can't open natively — this tool decodes them in-browser so you don't need Apple software.
Does converting an image lose quality?
Lossless options (PNG, WebP lossless) keep the image bit-for-bit identical. Lossy targets (JPG, WebP lossy, AVIF) use a quality slider so you control the tradeoff. At 90%+ quality the loss is imperceptible; at 70% the file is much smaller with minor softening visible only under scrutiny.
Can I batch-convert multiple images at once?
Yes — drag a whole folder onto the page. Every image is converted with the same settings in parallel, then offered as individual downloads or a single ZIP.
Is this image converter really free, and does it work offline?
Completely free, no signup, no watermarks. After the page loads once, the WebAssembly codecs are cached so subsequent conversions work fully offline. Your files never leave your device.
